Greetings Tacoma owners, and Merry Christmas!!!

This is my first post...I'm here looking for information about changing the timing belt on my 2001 Tacoma with the 5VZ-FE engine. Specifically, if it's worth my time (what does the dealer charge, and any other REPUTABE shops charge vs. my time and effort).

I'm trying to post a detailed message in the Maintainence Forum, but having a bit of trouble getting anything to post. Maybe it's because I have to post here first?

Anyway, I'm hoping someone will be able to lend me the special tools for this change in exchange for a case of their favorite adult beverage.

Thanks for your help in advance,
R. Gibson

Typically, it seems to take several hours in a "home" garage setup, however, the typical going rate seems to be $700 or so (parts included) at a shop.

One altenative is to take advantage of one of the several Toyota techs as members here who do side work.

Where are you at?

I'm roughly 104th Ave and Colorado Blvd, in Fox Run area.
I work in Boulder, though.

Heck yeah Toyota Tech's are always up for side work. I recomend Jacob since he lives near you (and also works at Boulder Toyota during the week). He has swapped many engines and while doing so has done the maintenace you need on them (not to mention wat he has done at Boulder Toyota).

Here is his contact info:

And additional general info is here if that helps. http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138681

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome. I was a CoTTORA member several years back, I think in 2002 or '03, but haven't signed on, and can't seem to remember my old user name. So I'll start all over.

Boulder Toyota did a fantastic job installing my TRD supercharger, and I gave them a couple cases of beer for their efforts. If I can get the tools, I'd rather do the work myself, kind of a truck-bonding-thing for me. On the other hand, if a ToyoTech wants to do it for a reasonable amount, then why get my knuckles all broke up?

But thanks for the reference, I'll definitely check into that :)

Probably better that way. We've all had our memories erased by those inkpen looking things from MIB. Or was it all the beer we drink after a day of wheeling? Oh look! A squirrel!

Well the old skool cottora was on the delphi boards. a PITA to use so it was nice when CoTTORA migrated with the National Forum I think in early 2005 to this forum.

At least mine was replaced with a "Happy Memory"!
