Hey guys,
just curious if any1's converted their headlights to a true HID setup. I saw these kits on EBAY , they seem like they're pretty descently priced. They come in several different applications, so H4 would work w/ it. Just wondering how difficult the install is. Thanx, Wes

here we go again...

there are no kits available that will completely convert your headlights to a HID system. The kits you see only include the balasts, bulbs and wiring, not the reflector/lens assembly that directs and shapes the beam. If you just add one of these kits to your existing light housings you will get tickets left and right and really piss off oncoming traffic. Non-HID reflector/lens assemblies are not designed to keep the ambient upper glare out of the beam pattern. If you notice cars that come stock with HID you'll notice that the light beam has a distinct cut-off, keeping the bright light out of people's eyes.

the kits also eliminate the hi-beam, leaving you with just your (now really bright) low-beams.

I know a few months back in a Performance Products catalog there was a company called Xenarc or something like that, it came w/ the actual headlight housing and everything, so I'm assuming it had all the necessary reflectors and what not, but I could be wrong. However, it was like $700 or $800. A lil bit outta my price range. Peace, Wes

yes, they make complete kits...just not for the Tacoma. I talked to one of those company owners that has the kits and he suggested trying to adapt his kit be cutting out the OE Taco reflector and fabbing a sort of hybrid assembly. He had done this on his car and it seemed to work. It sounded like too much work to me, though.

i had an hid kit on my taco a while back. i removed it cause it was pissing people off, no tickets though. it looked sweet, but i think youd have to paint your headlight chrome (inside the lamp) to get rid of that damn glare.

also, i had a hi/low kit, so i retained my hi beams and my flashing capabilities.

This company just started making a DOT legal conversion kit for '01-'04 Tacoma's as well as early 200mm Rectangular lamps;

And as usual, it seams like what ever car I own it falls in the no-mans land of what any aftermarket co makes

Sorry to "scramble the eggs" a little more, check out these, their description's expand on this topic. I noticed that the JEEP replacement's have a feature that allows a person to "tie in" to the factory HIGH BEAMS. Also, check out the "ADDITIONAL PICTURES". There is a headlight snapshot in there that looks strangely familliar. Like it might be a Taco...??? :eek:

So the kit retails for $1495 and the light spectrum is in the 4300k range. The lamps come with their own adjustments for adjusting height and everything. In northern Cal, you can go to Predator Motorsports or Andy's Auto Sport. Their kit has been out for about 8 months now.
