I am going to change out the diff fluid in my 2003 Double Cab Tacoma in a few hundred miles (after the new 4.56 gears break in) and was just wondering how much I need to purchase to do both.

Does anyone know how much each one takes so that I buy that much at the store? Thanks.

Buy the 5 gallon bucket, it's cheaper in the long run. If you wheel much you'll be replacing it every couple months after you do mud runs or water crossings.

The breather won't save you when you submerge the axle or dunk a tire. There can still be intrustion through the seals.

Front is 1.22 qts
Rear w/o Diff Lock is 2.69 qts
Rear w/Diff Lock is 3.18 qts

That is straight from Toyota. This should also be in your owner's manual.

I just fill it up until it comes out of the plug hole. 2-3 quarts sounds right.

Yeah, I plan on filling it up to the fill hole, but I need to know how much to buy so that I have enough for each one.

I think six of the 1 qt bottles covered my front and rear diffs and t-case when I changed the oil after 4.88s and a leaky t-case.

No problem on the info. That's probably why you came here.

That's the way to do it, as long as the truck is close to level front-to-back.
