Hey guys/gals,

Got a CEL on the way to work today and was wondering how I can check it w/out having going to the "stealer" and telling me 20 different things wrong with it. BTW, its a 02 Double cab Tacoma that the light went off on. THanks for the help!

pick up a cheap ODBII scanner at Kragen or someplace like that. Scan it yourself and look up the code(s) in the book that comes with the scanner.

If you have an AutoZone nearby they can check it for you for free. Once you get the code(s) pulled, come back here and we'd be glad to help you out.

Thanks guys for your help, but I have one more thing to ask. Where does the scanner plug into? Under the dash? Foot panel? In the engine bay? TIA

I think mine is under the hood next to the fuse box.

The thing under the hood that says "diagnostic" is decieving.
on my 99 it plugs in under the dash, just under the e-brake.
They'll scan it for free at checker too.
