some dick broke into my truck last night. luckily i heard my alarm go off and ran outside, almost caught the fucker. he went through the rear sliding xcab window and broke off the latch that locks it shut, reached around and unlocked the door. the alarm tripped and he still tried to jack my shit but i scared him away in time. unfortunately, he ripped out the center piece trying to get my cd player out and ripped off the face plate, stripped some screws and ripped outa bunch of wires including the airbag switch. my shits all fucked up now.

i want to kill somebody

Oh man - that sucks! Sorry to hear it. I put some wooden dowells in the track of my rear window preventing it from sliding - doesn't stop them from getting in if they really want to, but could be a bit of a deterant.....along with a sign on your truck that says "This truck protected by Smith & Wesson 4 days a week...you guess which 4!" :)

exactly how can you open the latch from the outside? Is it just sticking something thin inbetween the two panes of glass? I know that with the ranger's all it would take was a good hit and a fast slide and you could usually open them (friend had her purse stolen this way).

all these recent stolen vehicle posts make me glad I dont live in Cali

Oh Man!! The AIRBAG Thing!! Not long ago in my other Toy (Camry) I had an aftermarket alarm installed, the guy spliced into the airbag wire and the airbag light was on as I drove down the street, I returned to the alarm guy and was there a while, he was trying to reset it.

I took it to the dealer (cause if I want ANYTHING to work properly its the airbag) and Toyota's policy is that if any part of the airbag circuit is tampered with the whole assy has to be replaced. It is a $1,500 part and LOTS of labor, Three weeks total in the shop. I had to take it back several times because the shop guys kept missing connections (rearview mirrors, a/c, dome light) . All in all a MAJOR PITA!!

Hope all goes well with you!

fuck man, that is going to blow. the airbag switch wires were all ripped out and now my airbag light is on.

as far as the rear window goes, it looks like he just shoved a knife or something in between the glass and popped the latch off. it makes me want to get a motion detector or something on the truck so the alarm will go off when the back window is opened.

I just had an alarm installed on my Tacoma and for an extra $15 they put a magnetic sensor on the sliding rear window. Somebody opens it and the Alarm trips. Well worth the $15.

It's an after market alarm, a viper, but the magnetic switch was an extra part that should be able to be added to any after market alarm. Not sure if they could add it to the factory alarm or not. I had mine installed at quality auto sound. I've had a few alarms and audio systems from them and they are definitely cheaper than most other shops. At least in the Denver market.

Sorry to hear that man a buddy of mine that put on my t/m lift kit had his truck for sale sitting by his house and someone stole it while he was gone. They took it offroading needless to say they werent scared to push it down 4 wheeler trials it couldn't fit down. Completely destroyed it stole everything they could get off it and set it on fire. It went to the junk yard with the t/m kit still on it.

What alarm did you get? Model? What functions does it have? Thanks

I had them install the viper 560xv, it's an alarm and remote starter. Since "my half of the garage," as my wife says, is full of my toys I need to keep my truck outside and I was tired of leaving for work early and having a freezing cold truck. It's got a 4 button remote with long range attena, starter kill, six-tone siren, shock sensors, works the power locks, the remote start and some other stuff. I've been happy with it. It worked when the butt head smashed in the front of my truck last week!!! Yeah I was parked in the parking lot but at least he left a note and has insurance. Still pisses me off. Since my wife keeps her 4Runner in the garage I had them put on a viper 350hv. It's basically the same alarm minus the remote starter. If you keep you truck outside the remote start is a really nice feature.
