Got my drivers license almost a year ago, I love to go Camping and Mountain Biking. Any chance I get to take my Car on any sort of Dirt, I take it "who am I kidding, I never get the chance". I am very interested in four wheeling, But dont have any knowledge, the right Vehical, or anyone to show me the ropes.

I found out about this site from the Episode of "Tough Truckin" on Spike TV. I have been recently been shoping for my dream truck, and have spent a fortune "in my head". I have an idea of what I want, but no idea of how to get it, how to put it together, or how to use it.

What would you guys suggest?

You came the right place. most any questions you can think of regarding "wheeling" "4x4ing" what ever you want to call it can be answered here.
As far as a good truck I vote Tacoma :) see if you can get a used one to start with. they can do quite well off road without any mods.....then it will cost you your life savings and more. I warn you this sport/hobby is addicting :)

how is your truck? I know you said the engine was not sounding to good when we went to the snow....did you check it out?
i went to the place that rebuilt the motor and he was pretty cool about it he said the motor sounds fine, it has a bit of moisture problem..a bit of sludge is building up on the oil cap , he said thats a sign of a moisture problem....he told me to run it for a bit more and see if the problem goes away cuz the truck did sit for awhile not running, and if it doesnt we are gona run a leak down test on it...but motor still runs great...
Tacoma's are excellent trucks! Very good for hauling your bike to your favorite spot and also finding some new remote spots.

Set a budget or decide how you will finance. Once you know what you have to spend, start looking. Decide if you want a regular cab, extra cab, or double cab. Definitely get a 4x4, not a prerunner.

When you buy the truck, you can enjoy it right away without doing any modifications. I'm sure one of the Norcal guys or gals would even consult with you on the purchase.

Since you are new to the sport I would start with a newer vehicle. Older trucks are great if you are an experienced mechanic, have your own tools, and a place to wrech on them.

Good luck and check in often!

thats cool that they looked at it and are willing to help you out...sweet!!! :)
seems like im screwed, i got a prerunner...... heck i love it just the same..... anyhow i had a old 90 2wd 90 nissan with an open rear, i lifted it 3 inches and ran 235/75r15's and went jsut about anywhere i wanted. and to the new guy, this sport is addicting plus its very broad so if u dont like one aspect theres always another, sum are rock crawlin guys, others mudders, others like snow, and some enjoy the desert, then u got the old country boy like me just tryin to have a lil fun when he gets the chance. so definately go on sum runs, we dont have a TTORA chapter in my state but i dont let the hinder me from havin fun off-road.

I took my '82 Celica out to Frank Raines OHV and played around out there. I just had to watch out for ruts.
