I feel your pain, man. I had less than 3,000 miles on mine going up a snowy canyon to a ski resort when a kid in an Audi coming the other way lost control and slid backwards into the side of my truck. Only dented the panel between the driver's side door and the bed. Did about $1,000 of damage which his family paid. Fucking sucked to be Tacoless for a week while it was in the body shop!

dont get me wrong, thats a bummer and id be pissed too... just be happy that no one got hurt and youre not getting fucked over by an uninsured POS... this should show you how unpredictable something serious can happen, and how quickly without warning it could happen. what if they were rubbernecking coming the opposite direction, and went into your lane head on? like i said, i understand it sucks, but i think youre worrying too much about little things, when you should be glad it was so minor just my .02

Ok, no one was hurt, right? cool. Now, get a figure for OE bumper replacement from the other guy's ins. carrier. collect the check. get a cool Demello (or whatever) rear bumper for your '98 and stick your old bumper on the '04. :D

Getting hit sucks

Two years I was sitting mind my own business at a signalled 4 way when I was the third vehicle hit in a cross-intersection "accident". The bitch who ran a red left-turn arrow (with two kids in the backseat) claimed chinese discrimination, and never even disclosed that I was there or got hit when she did her telephone interview with the insurance company.

Shit happens, but never should to your truck. Sorry man, but you're right for being pissed. You got hosed this morning.

Well I know whats it like to get mad. I came out about a month and half ago to my truck with a dented passenger door with the paint scraped off it. My truck wasn't even to 7k yet. Worst of all it was a hit and run and in Florida I still have to pay my deductible even though I wasn't even there, $500 for someone else's doing.

i hate drive offs. i backed into some old fella about 2 years ago. i could have left, but my conscience got to me. i waited for an hour and a half outside for the guy to tell him. hopefully, if someone backs into me, they will do the same. also, from what i hear, rubbernecking is a big pass-time these days.

your frame might be bent if the bed is crooked. Did the bed hit the cab? I got rear ended 3 months ago by an uninsured motorist. It bent my right frame rail about 1" down. In doing so, the whole bed shifted and was all tweaked. Now my truck is probably pretty weak. I didn't repair the frame damage. Look carefully at your truck before you deal with the insurance adjusters. It's alot easier to get paid for it the first time, than to do a supplemental payment.

frame alignment

when I got hit, this was a focus of mine too. Collision repair technology is such that there are frame alignment machines aplenty out there.

Do some measurements yourself (I did), and if those measurements support a frame alignment check, provide your findings in writing, and your adjuster will have a difficult time denying that service. Just be courteous but firm.

Maybe I got lucky and had a good adjuster, but I was pleasantly surprised at how in tune my adjuster was to people who loved their vehicles and wanted them fixed right.
