According to bobistheoilguy.com the K&N is as good if not better than the Amsoil filter. Easier to service also. Check out his tests on his web page

The only knock I've ever heard about the K&N is that it doesn't filter good enough for some people. If it doesn't filter well, it's probably because it isn't oiled properly. The fibers swell and cover more area, and therefore trap more dirt when the properly oiled. I've always used K&N and have never had the first problem with them.

Where did you order your K&N from, and how much did it run you?

I havn't decided whether to do a K&N drop-in or the whole K&N intake. I have heard (and seen) that the K&N intake for the 4.0 4Runner's will fit the new Tacomas with a little tweaking, not sure what, (probably trimming plastic or something...) Just havn't made up my mind...

Be sure to tell us how the K&N fits, performs, ect, ect. I had a K&N drop-in on my old truck (97 Nissan Hardbody) and I couldn't tell a difference in performance, but the whole clean, oil, and reuse made it worth the money. Added performance would just be a bonus in my opinion. :D

4Filters.com lists the same product number for the 4Runners and the Tacomas. So to say it has just been released I am not so sure. However, it is cool that they carry it, and a decent price as well... I think I will save up and get the K&N intake.

Performanceproducts is a good company and can get their hands on some hard to find products. I used them a couple times when restoring/modding my 87' Ranger a couple years ago. Didn't look like they had much for the 05' at this moment.
