I don't know where this post belongs so I put it here. Please move it if necessary.

So I'm trying to start the truck but the key won't turn past the ACC switch. I've tried jiggling the steering wheel, I've tried to shift the auto tranny through all the gears and back to park (with e-brake on), I've tried it just in neutral, I've tried to press the brake while turning, but the friggin key won't turn any further.

The remote start still works though, I just can't drive it because I can't get the key to turn to the ON position.

Please help!

Even tried to disconnect battery to see if maybe that had something to do with it.

We were on a run at Tellico and someone's truck did this same thing. We tried everything, even a spare key, and never figure it out. Someone finally ended up pulling the tumbler and starting the truck with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Put it in neutral, roll it a foot or two while moving the wheel however much it will go, and try it them.

There is a button in the shifter console. That stops it from turning. Check to see if it is bent or bad.

have you tried taking the key out of the ignition and flipping it over? I know the key is cut identical on both sides but its worth a shot?
LOL. That's actually the first thing I thought of. I even tried the spare key just in case there was something wrong with mine.

Do you know if it worked fine after the pliers were used?

You mean the little button that allows you to shift around without the key? If it's bad, it won't let you turn the key?
I think its called a Netural safty lock? A little switch that is either by the tranny or for automatics by the shifter itself. It stops the key from turning, there is also one in the steering cloum. Call a Toyota Stealer, I think they are called safty switches of some sort.

I didn't think the shift interlock or whatever had a thing to do with the key itself turning.

I assume you have tried to turn the steering wheel both directions, or even had someone else try to turn it while you tried the key?

I have been in cars where the wheel was turned just right and it took a really big guy turning the wheel to get the lock to release.

I was hoping the rolling would free that up or move somethig a little.

Maybe time to call the locksmith to see it they can figure it out.

I guess you could flip the truck over and shake it a bit to see if anything falls out of the ignition switch.

Had the same problem two months ago, ended up calling a locksmith. He took the igniation out and it was something with tumblers, fixed it and was good to go. He told me that it happens alot. Cost me about $100 compared to Toyota wanted $350.
