Overall I was very impressed with my day today. I got an excellent deal on a stealth twin turbo and finally got a chance to tow it home today. The car weighs about 3500lbs (a fat pig. :) ) but since this one has no engine, i'm guessing about 3000lbs. Plus the trailer which is about 1800lbs for a grand total of 4800lbs! Book towing capacity is approx 3500lbs if i'm correct but I had a feeling there was more in her.

Overall I was very impressed with the trip. I did have to shift down to third to gain speed/prevent from slowing down on some big hills, but other than that, she had no trouble cruising at 55-65 mph. The brakes felt very solid and she handled the extra capacity very well. Like I said, overall I am very surprised and actually would not hesitate towing something a little heavier--for short distances only. The trip only covered about 150 miles and although I think I wouldnt have any trouble towing something further, I think a AT cooler would definately be a safe thing to have.

Dont underestimate our trucks!

DId the truck hessitate at all? I am planning on picking up a Old Toy and tow it home. It has no engine
what do you mean by hessitate?
when I wasw driving, you could tell you were towing somthign for acceleration was ass slow from a stop, but after you got past 30-40 it was fine.

but during the whole trip over huge ass hills from the moment i pulled out of the driveway, the truck never even came close to giving me the feeling that the engine could not handle the load.

I think it is 3500 w/out the tow package and 5000 with it. The package includes a different fan clutch and a tranny cooler. The max combined weight is 9000(for truck and trailer). I think you were just under the max or right on it. It is good to hear that our trucks live up to and beyond their limits. I plan on towing my 83 toy with my taco. I just have to make sure it all stays within those limits.

trailer brakes are your friend ;) I sure wouldn't pull that much w/o them.

your tires look pretty big to. is the drivetrain stock, or do you have lower gears?? my uncles john deere always has a dead battery, and i have pull the tracter off to start it more times than i can count. might not sound bad, but it has to weigh atleast 4500 pounds. when he lets out on the clutch to start it, both the back tractor tires lock up and slide on the dirt. i have to put it in four wheel drive, but it makes me feel good down inside to know that i can pull a 4500 pound tracter with-out its wheels moving. i also just have a four banger with 3.58's

Hehehe, I thought it was going to be some picks of something stuck :)
I towed a FULL 6x12 enclosed trailer back from Woodburn,Oregon to Houston. My 02 DCab did pretty good, especially on the hills of the west coast. I definitely knew the load was back there though. And I was glad to have maintained 15mpg the whole way back!!

I towed a 1969 MGC, with an Austin Healey cast iron inline 6, on the same trailer, from Central New Jersey to Houston, with my V6 Taco. No problem, even hittin 70 at times on the flats.

How can it be a twin turbo if it has no engine :) I pulled a big, old Ford Dumptruck to the gas station once, lets just say it was way more than what my truck wanted, had to put it in 2wd low to get it to move, and it wasn't good on the clutch... This was like a F-900 or whatever, the BIG ones, not a little playtoy 550. Don't want to do it again either...

of course. :)
i am a newb here, but a 3si vet, same screen name. thisll be my second 3/s.

regarding brakes, i think the trailer had some sorta hydrolic brakes on it, but honestly i thought the stocks was fine... maybe not fine in an extreme emergency but overall i felt it did the job well.
