I just moved down to SoCal and am looking for some good trails and I heard about this one. I searched and couldn't find to much info on the main divide trail. Just wondering if anyone has any info on it or if its open anymore. I know the entrance off the 91 is closed but what about all the others?

Thanks in advance

The Main Divide itself is open as per the web site above. The more pleasant starting point via Maple Springs near Silverado is not. You can run it wither east to west or west to east. It is mostly easy with some great views. http://www.dirtopia.com/wiki/Main_Divide_Road

A decent book to get one started is : Backcountry Adventures: Southern California, by Massey if you can find a copy: http://www.amazon.com/Backcountry-Adventures-Southern-California-Ultimate/dp/1930193262

Big Bear is full of trails from easy to hard and is very close and nicely high up in the mountains and very close for a weekend of fun! Look up trails in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Southern-California-Backroads-4-Wheel-Trails/dp/0966497643 as well as many in So. Cal.

Anza Borrego is full of fun: http://www.desertusa.com/web_cart/db/pages/5022.html

For the Mojave Road the best book is: http://www.desertusa.com/web_cart/db/pages/5094.html

Let me know if you ever want to go up to the Main Divide Rd. I live in Newport Beach. That's a quick trip except for the 45min - 1 hour drive each way to the trail head off of Ortega Hwy. They're opening up the Maple Springs entrance in the fall of 2015 :). Unless there's another fire .
