The A340F A/T in my KZN-185 is on the fritz, so I am thinking of doing a manual swap. There are a lot of write-ups for doing that on a 3rd gen 4runner, but I haven't yet found anything comprehensive for doing this on a Surf.

The first, threshold question I am trying to figure out is can / should I mate 1KZ-TE to R150F transmission that the North American 4runners came with, or do I have to necessarily use the R151F?

As far as I can tell, there are at least three differences between the two:

1. Gear ratios for the first two gears (R150F: 1st - 3.83, 2nd - 2.062; R151F: 1st - 4.313, 2nd - 2.330)
2. not sure, but it seems that R151F uses a dual mass flywheel and R150F doesn't?
3. the rear drive shaft is different between KZN185 and VZN185 with manual trans (front drive shaft is the same). I am not sure if the difference is just the length or something else as well (I would guess that the KZN would be shorter since transmission mounts further back).
