Just thought I would share my experience.

I purchased a Uniden pro520xl and a Wilson 4' silver load flex-4 antana with 18' of heavy coax cable. I had to dremal the plastic behind the ashtray to slide the cb as far back as possible. Had to pick up a L shaped coax connector, mount it to the back of the cb to try and get a nice flush mount.

One problem I ran into was that my manual shifter hits the connector for the mic in both 3rd and 5th gear when the mic is attached. It still works but it will eventually beat up the wiring for the mic where it connects to the CB. I was thinking about flipping the CB upside down to get the mic connector to the opposite side and away from the shifter but then it looks kinda cheezy upside down and it will muffle the speaker.

I wired the cb to my cigarette lighter which works fine but I do get some feedback when some of the electrical components are energized, ex. the windshield wipers. Wiring it directly to the battery would probably solve this.

Anyone have a remedy for this, besides relocating the cb? I guess I could cut into the AC duct to push the CB back even further but I don't really want to do that.

The CB sticks out past the dash around a 1/2". I took out the mounting bracket for the ashtray and trimmed the plastic at the very back of the ashtray slot. I trimmed off about 1" on the hight and the entire width of the slot. It's just enought to slide the CB in. I was actually thinking about taking another 1" or so off the hight so that I could angle the CB up towards me to try and clear the mic connector from hitting the shifter. Only problem, I think the plastic dash actually narrows the further down you go preventing the CB from being angled. I would probably have to do some more trimming on the sides to make it work. I will try and take some pictures for you latter.

I think the only way other then relocating it or flipping it would be to bend the shifter. I have a body lift so with the shifter in a different spot then stock I don't hit the CB mic. If you do end up cutting the ducting behind the CB get pictures of what you did. I was going to heat up the plastic a bit and bend it in so the CB will fit flush with the rest of the dash...

That's a good idea. I would rather heat and warp the platic duct rather then cutting a hole in it. I actually have a 3" body lift sitting in the garage waiting to be installed. What size BL do you have and did you put the shifter extensions in when you installed your BL? I was thinking that by adding a BL with the shifter extensions I would have the same issue. Correct me if i'm wrong.

I have a 2 inch body lift, and for some reason when I put the extentions in it didn't put the shifter in the same position... I even marked the shifter before I cut it so I could line it back up afterwards. Mine was right against my knee when it was in first, I must have cut it a little funny, so I used a torch and put it in a better position. Let me know how it heating the duct works!

I have a cheap radio shack CB so I dont kow if it is smaller than yours, but I mounted mine in the cubby under the radio. It fits flush with the plastic lip with the rear connector hitting the plastic behind the dash. I cut out the rear of the tray to make it fit. With an "L" connector it would go back even farther.

Sounds farmiliar.....
I posted the same thing a few weeks ago... and had done the same thing, only difference being I soldered all electrical connections, used shrink wrap, and I dont have any electrical interference. As far as the cb hitting the shifter... I have none of those problems either.

here you go: This was my thread http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6857

And just for kicks, here's a pic of my install:
