I don't think it will work with our ignition system. On the V6 there is a seperate ignition coil for each pair of spark plugs and I don't think the MSD device is compatable. Even if it is, I don't think it would improve combustion all that much. With a coil per pair of spark plugs, you are getting a pretty powerful spark. With modern fuel injected engines, I think multispark units like the MSD rank right up there with the Tornado fuel saver, magnets on the fuel lines, and throttle body spacers as far as actual results go.

Way to be Breathegoode. Someone else who understands that much of this stuff is much ado about nothing. Complete waste of money. So much of this stuff is placebo.

I just got done reading a thread where a guy posted that once he put in his new steering rack poly bushings, his truck drove "so much tighter". No way. I did the same swap out; didn't notice a DAMN bit of difference. I mean, they're flippin center of the truck bushings. I put on the K & N air filter. Didn't notice a DAMN bit of difference.

The guy in Auto Zone told me that he liked Castrol full syn better than Mobil full syn. Said he really noticed the performance difference. Yeah right.

Either I'm ignorant, or lucky. Either way, I don't have to spend a bunch of time chasin down the latest and the greatest.

Except for the fuel magnets...

MSD does make a difference!!

most time in cars I have built and raced, have picked up some mpg and picked up a couple tenths in the quarter, definitely will wake up a Toyota at the seat of your pants feel

I am about to wire up an MSD digital ignition into my 1997 3.4 4 Runner

...not to be arrogant, but I have raced for years, worked at a speed shop and have nothing but good things to say and positive power gains with MSD

it is NO way shape or form comprable to bullsh--t HP that things like the tornado claims...

if you like check out my site, I have MSD in almost every vehicle there

Wow, way to bring up an old thread. I believe that an upgraded ignition like MSD or Jacobs can have great performance benifits on a lot of cars, but I'd like to see a dyno on your 3.4 4Runner with the MSD before I take it out of the Tornado and TBS catagory. Seat of the pants don't mean much around here. Get dyno proof before you go spoutin off how wonderful it is on Tacomas and 4Runners.

I don't want to just bust your chops on this, but keep us informed on how it works out for you. Even if it provides no power increase but improves gas mileage by 10%, there are a lot of us that would be interested (assuming your engine is properly tuned to begin with). Hard numbers mean a lot. If you really race your chit, you know where to have it dyno'd.

Only one of the vehicles is a Toyota, and it's normally aspirated with the only "mods" being an air intake and exhaust. It's not exactly screaming for an ignition upgrade.

My '97 Silverado with a 5.7L Vortec and my father added a full Jacobs ignition that was said to boost hp and mileage. It did neither, and was a waste of somewhere around $400.

I may soon put a supercharger on my truck as well

and even the most basic of vehicles can have some gain with an igniton upgrade

seems soo many times Toyota owners are nay sayers

I have seen people on the Jeep forum.....installing MSDs, coaxing every last bit out of their rigs, but perhaps Toyota owners are just different...

p.s. Jacobs Ignitions suck in my opinion.....he should have went with an MSD
and yes I am a former Jeep owner :)

p.p.s I actually do not know anything about cars or power upgrades...this is all an elaborate hoax, in fact I do not even own a Toyota!!!! In fact I just escaped from the Bellvue Hospital, I was in the looney bin there, most of my day was spent talking to oranges and rubbing pudding on my face, I would follow that up with reading these awesome 4 wheel drive magazines!

so who am I to offer any type of professional opinion....and my friend doesnt have a dyno....here is a picture of a car I am hacking together, I put an MSD in this, just for looks!
