I was told by my local Goodyear store today that MTRs are on backorder, because they are being redesigned. Is that true? The dealer also recomended that I try a set of "Mud Dawgs." He said that they are made by Goodyear and that they are knock offs of MTRs. I really dont believe that MTRs could already be getting a makeover. Does anyone have experience with "Mud Dawgs?"

I have heard that the MT/R's are getting redesigned also, but not that they are stopping production of the current ones. You would think that if they were going to release a new design that they would do that going into summer, not going into winter in 3 months.... And as for the Mud Dawgs, never heard of them...

Get a set off Ebay, that's what I did and they were half the cost.

I saw the first mud-dawg a couple of months ago, and here in Arkansas, they have taken off. I have seen them, and they look identical to a MT/R. Put the white-wall in, and you have a MT/R :D . They are also pretty damn good in the mud. A friend of mine with an excab taco put 31-10.5 on his and cost him right at 450 dollars, i would say that is a little cheaper than the MT/R

google doesn't seem to bring up any tire related results to "mud dawgs." i'd be extremely interested if anyone knew if they were only a midwest thing or what? I've never heard of them in California.

Big Dawg has the Summit name on them, but is also known as the Big Horn when it has the Maxxis name on it. Maxxis makes them for Summit. Same tire, different name. Hit the market not too long ago as direct competition for the MT/R, more affordable. My Big Horn 35's will be mounted no later than Thursday this week. A friend of mine already has the 33 inch Big Dawgs and loves them so far. If you want to check them out go to www.Maxxis.com, click on light truck tires and select the Big Horn radial.

Nice looking tire. Looks like it should do better in the mud with the "steps" on the outside lugs, the sidewall lugs look to be aggressive as well. The sipes are a good idea, but they should be longer IMO.

Look forward to hearing more about these for my next Taco, got sick of paying the MT/R premium prices.

Interesting tire. Where did you purchase them from? A local dealer?

Thanks for the info, now tell me about the maxxis version. I have maxxis tires on my bike and they are great. I had not considered maxxis tires for my truck, but nowI am a little interested. Does anyone know their quality?

The link says that they are bias tires and they have the same tread depth as a Super Swamper Bias ply TSL (27/32's). So I would say that they suck. I would never buy another set of bias tires again unless it was just for trail use only.

Edit:

Wrong tire, these might be better

I can check and see if they'll ship. They called this morning to confirm mine will be in on Thursday, so as soon as they're mounted I'll post some close up pics too.

Just talked to them and they'll ship. Let me know if you need prices or if you want their number.
Excellent, prices and their number would be good, thanks. Post pictures of your setup when they're all mounted up too!

B&B Tire in Asheville, N.C. 828-254-3379 ask for Roger. Great people to deal with, good prices. (For this region, hopefully for you too.) I'll post pics of mine Thursday night or Friday.
