Hi All,

I have a 1996 Toyota 4runner(Limited Edition, V6, Auto) 4WD/transfercase issue. Basically it is stuck in neutral. Car rolls freely when in P,D, 1,2 OR H, L. I have worked on troubleshooting transmission and transfercase for many weeks and has finally concluded that transfercase shifter H-N-L are not engaging.

I have posted in many Toyota forums but I realized most of them in those forums are Toyota enthusiasts not really mechanics.

Here is my 4runner issue:

1. Transfercase shifter was accidently shift from H gear to N gear when I was driver 30+mph in 2WD mode.

2. Transfer gears are fine, it didn't break.

3. 4WD works. I mean it does engaged from 2WD to 4WD.

4. Shfter H-N-L doesn't engage any more, it just stays in neutral.

So my question is beside replace the transfercase, is there a possiblity that a sensor or ECU that can prevent transfercase stuck in neutral.

Thank you,

Paul
