First thanks to "jomentum" for informing me of this site thru a mutual friend.

I picked up a 1st Gen about a month ago. I've had 2 4th gens in the past, both stock, and I really wanted to get something that I could go camping and do some light wheeling with my two boys, 7 and 4. I found this one, an 89, 3.0 with a 5 speed. I really wanted an auto, but for $600, I couldn't pass this one up.

I knew going in that it needed new wheel bearings on the driver side, so I am in the process of replacing them and doing an Auto Hub to Manual Hub conversion.

When asked to name the 4Runner, my 7 year old spit out "Dirt Digger" so that it is.

Manual Hub Conversion Kit from Warn has arrived, old hubs have been removed but I've run into a snag. I noticed that the driver side hub, the one with the exploded bearings, is all scared up and grooved where the inner race/bearing sit (last pic in the flicker link). I guess I will be headed to the junkyard in the morning.
