Hello all. I'm looking for a truck and have been searching for 3 weeks now. Drove almost all new trucks from Ford GMC Chevy Nissan Dodge and some used. I think I found one. 2000 Tacoma xcab v6 5 speed with 85100 miles.
I sold my silverado back in July because I just didn't use it much now that I ride my SV650 suzuki almost everyday so a big truck big engine wasn't needed. I started out 3 weeks ago looking at Tocoma's. A couple of my friends have Toyotas and they have contests on who can put the most miles on them. Anyhow, I'm doing a lot of research on what to get. After driving many trucks now, I'm back to the Tacoma because I think it suits my needs the best. Long lasting, good on gas, good looks, dependable and good resale value. My daughter is heading off to college, my son is going to drive in three years and if the famliy gets together and goes somewhere we'll use the Touareg. My wife can't wait to get her hands on that. So the Tacoma just seems to be right.
Couple of questions. Is 85100 miles to much for $14700? I live in PA so thta night help you guage prices. It's at a good local Toyota dealer so I feel it has been looked over thoroughly. I saw the truck today. Very nice condition. Spray in bed liner, tow hitch, sliding rear window, newish tires, no rust or dings. Looks like it was taken care of. How much do dealers have to work with their numbers on something like this truck? I'm getting tired of looking and out of all I've seen, I could live with this one. Is there anything to look for? I drove a 1999 4cyl. 5 speed last weekend and the front end wobbled like crazy. Said something to the sale guy and he said,"they all do that with big tires". Yeah right. I walked away from that place. Any help would be get and I'll page thru the site and do research. Thanks guys

First of all you started out right when you joined this forum, welcome aboard. Toyotas are very dependable but even with alittle neglect it could still cause you problems down the road. I had to replace my power steering pump at 35K but it was still under warrenty. If you treat her right she will treat you right even if you get alittle rough with her as long as you keep up with the fluid changes there is no reason why you should get at least another 150-200K more. The 4 bangers seem to out last the V6's but ive seen tacomas that have the V6 get over 200K. Resale valve are pretty high even if she has alot of miles on her. Check out the blue book value on her before you make a purchase just to make sure that the dealer isnt buring you. Good maintence in my book goes along way. Good luck and remember we are here for you if you have any other questions.

For a dealer, that price doesn't seem to ba bad at all. Typically on ebay, 98-00's with 60-80k miles got for 12-13k for a very similar taco.

Try to get them at 14k so you have a little less to pay for tax. I bought my 99 prerunner V6 TRD ex-cab with 89k miles for 10k. I was looking for 4 months! Like 600-700 more on blue book. Private party...

If you have the Gelt spend another $6K and buy a new "left over" '04 or even an '03 with very low mileage. Less problems and you have that all important waranty. You will love the tacoma. Worst thing about mine was the seating, I had to beef it up with more foam rubber because I drive long distances a couple of time a year. Oh yeah, get an extra job for the upgrades that you will be performing in the future. Good Luck and don't rush into this. Once dealer sees you back a couple or three times and you know about prices you will get a good deal.

'02 Pre-Runner Xtcab, 3.4, auto, TRD puffer,7th injector kit, headers, cat-back, air filter. step bars, Westin bull bar with KC fog lamps, Monomax shocks, Summit anti roll traction springs, ARE hard tonnneau cover, home made bed rug, and boost guage.

In my opinion, that's way to much. I picked up a 2002 Tacoma, V6, 4x4, SR5,
X-tra cab, 5sp, 20,500 miles. It has Fabtech coil-overs, Sony CD/CD-RW/MP3
head unit, Sony 10-disk changer, MTX amp/sub, Viper alarm, new rubber all the way around, factory hitch, sprayed bed lining, after market exhaust,
super clean. $17,500 cash out the door at a Nissan dealership.

Keep looking. There's better deals out there. If I was you, I'd look in
the bordering states. BTW, purchase was made in Hawaii. Everything costs
more here.

I got 5K off an 04 double cab 4x4 in Aug of 2004 at Mount Clemens Toyota in Michigan. Year-end and older style models will get you the best deal. Also buy at the end of the month, dealerships need to reach a certain $$ goal and they will go that extra mile to do so.

I bet you can get a great deal if you can find a leftover 04. I've seen quite a few here in MD.
