Hello Everyone.

I need some advice. I have a 2001 Tacoma 4cyl Manual Standard Cab 4x4 with a 3" Spacer/AAL Lift and 33x12.50's. I am not certain about the engine size I think it's a 2.7. How do I find out for certain?

Here are my questions. First, I want a selective locker like the ARB Air Locker. Are there less expenise electronic lockers available? Also is my rear axle the 8"?

Next, I need to regear. I was wondering if I should go with 4.56 or 4.88 gears. Also do I need to regear the front diff as well? I got a quote from a local reputable parts supplier and installer. They quoted me $1500.00 for the regear and ARB Air Locker w/ Compressor and the install. That price seems way out of line with the prices other members listed so I was wondering if that price was for regearing the rear dif only?

It's the 8.25" or 210mm or 8.4" diff if you don't have the electric locker. People refer to it lots of different ways, but it's not the 8" diff.

Next, I need to regear. I was wondering if I should go with 4.56 or 4.88 gears. Also do I need to regear the front diff as well?

The front and rear have to be the same ratio, unless you are running different sized tires for some reason.

go with 4.88's. that price doesnt seem too bad to me if it's the price for all parts and installation. I've seen some places asking that much for just re-gearing

Yea, i have been lookin for electric lockers now for about 4 hours... so far i havent found anything... that question defantly would be nice to have answered.
but i do now know the size of my rear axle. so that may help.

i read somewhere the other day that said that there were no electric lockers for the front axle, but then read another place that there was one... i dont exactly remember now. What is the truth there?
i couldnt ask then becaue i hadnt gotten my account working yet to be able to write stuff on here.

I don't believe there are any that are directly compatible with your non-TRD rearend.

I have the same truck, I went with 4.88s and am happy with the desicion most of the time...the RPMs can get a little high at highway speeds. I average about 18.5mpg.

I'm guessing the shop was quoting just a regear. The price for F&R gears, install kits, an ARB, and compressor alone can easily exceed $1500. Also beware of bad ARB installations. Bad installs can severely decrease the dependability of an ARB.
