Just bought a 1999 4Runner Limited and it has the Locking Rear Diff

but my question is what kind of transfer case I have in it...

it has 4WD, 4Hi 4lo and Lo? I belive?


Im not stupid just unfamiliar, i came from a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee, With Part Time Full time and 4 Lo

Which motor/tranny?

Sounds like it has the multimode transfer case - 4WD has the center diff unlocked (for use on the road/high traction surfaces - in low traction, it will result in 1 wheel drive), 4HI locks the center diff, and 4 low is center diff locked+low range.

I think they were using the multi mode in 99 on some Limiteds. Look at the little display that lights up when you engage 4wd, is there an orange circle in the middle or just the 4 green tires. The orange circle represents the center diff being locked or unlocked. Non multi mode system would not have that display.

thanks I will have to play around with it, just the stupid people I bought it from didn't give me the manual...

Its a 99 Limited so its an Automatic with V-6.... Yeah it also has the Rear Diff Lock
