Hey everyone, newbs here checking out the forum. Jen and myself, Robert, just picked up 1988 4-runner. We have been wheeling for years mainly in our Jeep('03 Gold TJ) but wanted to step it up. Still have the Jeep but semi-retiring it for now. We live in San ANtonio and know a few people in TTORA. Hoping to learn from you guys about Toyota's and participate in runs etc. Can't wait to meet and wheel with you guy's. Figured I would also post an intro of sorts here in the TX chapter.
Here are the specs:
All tubing is 1.75 .120 wall DOM.
Engine:
rebuilt 1994 Chevy 4.3 cpi with complete Howell efi harness. The infamous spider injection has been fixed in the rebuild. Damn strong motor for a v6 with plenty of go. Cooling comes from factory gm s-10 radiator using a dual puller e-fan setup, temp never gets over 210 and usually hovers at 190ish. New alternator and plug wires.
Fuel system:
Stock 1988 Toyota tank with new in tank 4.3 gm fuel pump and jegs reusable aluminum filter. Mounted high in the rear portion of chassis above suspension.
Transmission:
1994 4l60e with swapped output shaft from Advanced Adapters to mate to gear driven Toyota cases using their adapter coupling.
Transfercase:
New three years ago from trail-gear, built dual setup with 23 spline throughout. The front case is 2.28 and the rear has the 4.7 ratio. The rear case is twinsticked. Recently upgraded to the marlin crawler front and rear chromolly 30 spline outputs and larger flanges...very beef. Custom skid plate that spans from the front under the engine oil pan to behind the rear crawl box of the transfer case. Protects everything.
Front axle:
1987 CUCV GM dana 60 front with the factory larger inner c's. 4.56 gears and a spooled carrier. yukon 35 spline chromolly outers with spicer life joints and factory 35 spline inners. 4wd factory drive flanges that can be removed and the cover replaced without the drive puck inside in case you break a shaft. High steer arms from PSC with new kingpin bushings. Custom gusseted C's. Full hydro with all components matched bought from PSC. Ballistic cover. Front driveshaft uses 1.75" .250 wall DOM with slip at axle side using 1310 yoke and Toyota flange on frame side.
Rear axle:
1987 CUCV GM 14bolt with disc brake conversion and Detroit. 4.56 gears. Truss for links with the upper portion tied into the rear diff cover. Ballistic cover. Uses rear .250 square tubing for drive line with Toyota flange on frame side, and 1350 joint at the axle side. GLO custom yoke girdles are used instead of straps.
Front suspension:
Fox 2.5 18" airshocks used in a 3 link setup. 5" true up-travel with 13" down travel. All links are 2" .250 wall DOM using Ballistic rebuild-able joints in the 2.63 flavor. The panhard uses 3/4 hiems and bent for clearance 1.75" .250 DOM. Upper third link is on the drivers side and has adjustable height on the frame side.
