I have a 2003 DC 4x4 Automatic Tacoma with push button 4x4 system. The problem is that when I engage the 4x4 is fine but when it dis-engages there is a violent clunk. If I do this at low speeds it is fairly suttle, if I do it stopped it can at times jolt the truck forward. This will happen 8 times out of 10. Should I stop using the 4x4 untill this is fixed, it is concerning. Thanks in advance for the feedback :)

Make sure that your not on the gas when engaging or disengaging. If I push my 4wheelDrive button to disengage and I'm on the gas even a little I get a fairly loud clunk. No throttle = no clunk, for me anyway.

I don't see how your truck can do this when its at a stop though :dunno:.

Any torque on the system will cause it to bind. Make sure your not speeding up. Coast level or slight down hill you will be ok. I have had this happen a couple of times with torque on the drive train. Once will going up a hill and a second time down a hill while on the brakes turning into driveway.
