I have an 01 Tacoma 4x4 and now the oil pan is leaking . Ive checked for a gasket but I recall hearing that only RTV sealer was used. Is this true and is there a Toyota specific sealer that is used ?

get some right stuff.
pull pan clean off both surfaces VERY VERY well. put back together useing right stuff for gasket.

i had mine replaced by the stealership, when it was under warranty, i dont know if urs is or not, but check if you can
EDIT mines actually starting to leak again, from what they told me at the timr its kinda a hit or miss thing when they start leaking, but they tell me many stories that dont always make sense to me like the time they said i didnt have an rear diff locker yet the button is right on the dash

I have the oil pan leak as well. Mine's a 98 though. Goes through about 1/2 quart every 5K miles.

Is it possible to replace the gasket/seal with the engine still in-truck? (2.7)

It's possible to fix the oil pan leak without pulling the engine but some dissassembly of the front driveling will be required.
