:newbie: Hey all I,m new to this board and was just looking for some input. I'm looking at geting a used 01,02 or 03 5 speed 4x4 Tacoma with the TRD package. Is there anything I should be looking for while looking for one. Are there any major differences through these years, is there one year better than the other? Thanks in advance for any help.

Those are all good years IMO! The TRD package is a great choice! I like the 5spd for the street but for rock-crawlin I like the auto!

I have an 01. Wish I had the TRD package. Sorry don't know the differences between the model years. Love the truck.

I can't say much about what year to get, but I would definetly recommend at least an extra cab. Double cab would be good too. Depends on how much stuff (or crap if you want) and people you want to take along with you.

I went from a '93 extra to an '04 double. I cleaned about 3 milk crates of stuff out of the '93, fire extinguisher, light, ropes, tie downs, chains, .... It was all stashed in the cubbie holes in the side wall, under the rear seats, in the rear seat foot well. And it didnt' look like a storage area back there. It all tucked away nicely. A third person could sit behind the passanger and not have to move anything.

There is no place to store all this stuff in the double cab. I had to go out and buy a tool box to put most of it in. There is that and a milk crate bungied into the bed. But I can take other people with me with a lot more confort.

Pick your trade off.

You cant argue with that! V-6 is the way to go, especially with the 5 speed... THEY ARE AND EXCELLENT COMBO!

Just make sure you are actually getting the TRD, not a non TRD with stickers on the bed, I know someone that that happened too, that sucks. Make sure it has a locking differential, there will be a rr diff lock button and probably a small instructional sticker on the door.

Get manual hubs if you are going to stick with the IFS, and plan on a lift.

Did toyota quit w/ Manual Hubs on one of these year models?
