Hey all,
I'm new to posting here, but I've been an observer for several years.

Anyway, does anybody have any experience with the Koutech CBS220-1 dual port serial adapter? I bought one from Newegg and I can't get it to work. I've been trying to complete the tune on my truck and I was trying to save some cash by not going with the $200 socketcom adapter. I also tried the serial to usb adapter cable with no luck.

I was able to install the drivers and have the ports show up in device manager, but I can't connect to the scan tool, LM-1 or the FTC-1. Are there any settings I need to look at?

Thanks for any replies,

Chris

What kind of laptop do you have? I have a T30 IBM thinkpad. Initially, I had problems with the serial port too. My handheld dock uses serial port to sync to. Once I uninstalled my handheld software, I was able to connect FTC via DB9 serial cable. Also make sure its DB9. There are null modem cables that are 9 pin that plugs into everythign but they will not work.

I figured it out. Today when I got home I tried it again and com1 was working. I looked to see what settings were different and found in the device manager, com port properties there's a tab for data rate. Last night after I quit I was looking in there and I must have inadvertently clicked on the "detect crystal frequency" button. I didn't think that had anything to do with it because the documentation that came with it didn't say much about it so I quit for the night. I hit that button for com2 and it switched the crystal frequency reading from 1.8 MHz to 14.7 MHz then started working also.

Now I can finally tune this thing. It's been in for a year and while it's been running decent, I still get some pinging and I would like to squeeze as much performance as I could from it :D Now I just need to find someone to drive it while I tune.

I jsut sold a new Koutech 2 port serial card on here I had as a spare. It worked pretty well as far as I can tell- great deal for the money.

I also have a Socket 2 port unit- it works about the same, the main difference being a smaller profile, and it drains a little less power. Not a huge deal if you have a 12V adapter or inverter.

If you want a socket unit, keep an eye out on ebay- you can score a 2-port for anywhere from $60-140.
