I am patiently waiting on a tax return and hoping you all will help me spend it. Vehicle is an 04 4x4 Tacoma DBL Cab. I have decided that my first major mod will be suspension and tires. I have been lurking here for several months and have read and searched a ton. Some of this is going to be repetitive, so please bare with me. I want to do this once and do it right.
The front is going to get new coilovers and 99% sure that they will be the Donahoes. I have read nothing but good and I do plan to run a winch/ARB combo in the future. I was hoping to do the front for less cash, but everything I read led to coilovers if winch/bumper combo was part of the equation. I hope to run these at 3" of lift, though I do have auto hubs. Is 3" possible if I add diff drop? I have heard from some members that a diff drop is useless??? What is the real verdict on the diff drop? So hopefully that will take care of the front.
For the back I am stuck between All Pro 3" springs or Deaver 8-Leaf 2". I have decided against the 7-Leaf Deaver because I would like to retain more load capacity. I have read all good in regard to the Deavers and the All Pro leaf springs. If money was no object I would certainly go with the Deavers, but if I can save about 150-200 bucks I am all for it. Will the Deavers be that much better than the All Pro setup? Also one gives 2" of lift and the other 3". I do not mind how Tacoma's sit some what ass-high from the Factory. Would I still be proportionately ass-high with the 3" springs? I am not looking to completely level the truck; to me a truck should be SLIGHTLY higher in the back. I just don't want the 3" All Pro spring to push the ass too much higher than the 2.5-3" coilover front. Help me out with that confusion.
For tire size I think I have decided on 275 75R 16 on the Factory wheels. If memory serves that is a 32" tire? I am not looking to rub ever, so if any of you think I might please speak up. I think I want something close to 32x10.50x16(much easier for me in inches!!!). From what I have read, a 33 may rub and also may perform better if I regeared. Not wanting to regear yet.
So I think that is it. The truck will certainly see pavement more that off-road as it is a daily driver. I just want to set up as a very competent off-road Tacoma. Nothing hardcore, but some pucker factor trails for sure. Thanks for your time and input regarding this setup.
