Ive had my urd kit on for about a month now and I noticed pinging the other day while on the highway. I havent had it tuned yet (just the startup program) but I thought for sure with those size injectors that I wouldnt have a pinging problem. DId anyone else experience this?

Anyone happen to have a wideband sensor in the MA area? I cant have my truck running like this especially at 90K. I guess it must be tuned...but Im running out of money to dump into it :xsmash:

Is it better to tune this thing myself (No previous tuning experience) or have someone else do it? Also ( I will prolly get flagged for this) the wideband sensor is only needed for the open loop tuning correct? and the OBD is needed for closed loop in order to tell if the ecu is running in closed or open?

TIA

Aright but can the tune be done with just OBDII or do i need to worry about the open loop?

Read the utune guide. For pinging....all you need are your ears.

most likely its going to be the cells from just before boost and 2000 to 2500 rpm.

do a closed loop cal then tune timing,.... however that is just a bandaid for now. A full closed/open loop and timing cal is what you really need. Timing(pinging) will be affected after the open loop cal so you will want to retune that portion again.

Drive out to Wisconsin this weekend and you can jump in line for a tune session or borrow the gear and tune it where you are. It rally isn't difficult once you know what to do. You will be amazed at the difference it makes. It will cure your ping too.

I had the same issues you are having. Brian from URD actually came to my house and helped me on and off for several weeks. We eventually had to go get it dyno'd. That cured my issues through the entire boost and rpm range except for 4800 and above. My fuel pressure went from 12/1 to 14/1..really lean. We dumped tones of fuel at it at 4800 and it still leaned. I have since changed my filter and cleaned the tank, but still need to get back and see if that was the culprit. Like everyone said, do it now. Pinging is bad. Oh BTW, what octane are you running?

Gadget will tell you that the startup maps are just for starting the truck with your new gear. All 3.4's run different and yours will require a custom tune.

Ping is bad. It cracked my cylinder heads last year. Fix it now.

Before cracking your cylinder head when would your engine ping? hg/lr? How long did you run engine before your head blew up?

Exactly... HG/LR. I ran colder plugs during that time too. 73,000 miles supercharged at the time over about 3 years.

Ok finally got my laptop and everything hooked up and it is pretty cool...One thing I did notice is that my im only getting about 5lbs of boost according to the FTC where is my gauge reads 7. Also when im trying to dial out the ping am I changing cell numbers in both the timing retard and fuel maps or just adding more fuel in the fuel map? Thanks

No, read the U-Tune instructions carefully. You want to tune the closed loop first and try to get your fuel trims to add up to zero(fuel map only). Then open loop (fuel map only). For pinging after that you want to use your ears and work on the timing map. It's been a while since i read the instructions or played with my truck, but that is ow I understand it.

Dcab is correct. Increase values in map B to decrease ping(you are just increasing the timing "retard"). Your fuel values on map A are dependent on LT values and open loop AFR's.
