Has anyone tried color-matching with powder coat? I've heard that powder coat is cheaper than paint, but is the color selection as good? I've got a lunar mist colored truck and I'd like to get a few things (possibly grille, bumper(s), skid plate) powder coated to match. Also, can plastic be powder coated? (Something tells me the answer to that last question is probably 'no' considering it's a baked-on finish, but hey, it never hurts to ask.)
Thanks

Powder coating has come a long way and there are a lot of colors and textures available. Not as many as paint...but there is a possibility of finding a similar silver color. I know where I used to work they did color matching but it was a long process and it was for a completely different application. I would think it would be hard to find a place to do it for your truck.

You are correct with plastic not being able to be powdercoated. Not only because of the baking process - the "powder" in powdercoating is electrically charged and it sticks to the metal. (negative being attracted to positive sort of thing - or it could be the other way around) either way...it doesn't work on plastic.

Precise color-matching won't be likely with powder coating. There are too many variables, even if the original powder seems to match...

Powder coating generally runs more than painting, but tends to be more durable.

I'd suggest powdercoating the metal and doing the best color-matched paint job you can on the plastics...
