PS whine??

1780 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  platform389
I have had 2 excursions into some pretty gnarly mud this winter, and both times after about 30 minutes in the mud my steering starts whining. when you turn the wheel it kinda makes a sighing/whining sound that is hard to describe. Then it continues to do it for the rest of the day even after washing and then the next day its gone....very strange. what could cause this? Is it a sign of trouble to come? If so, how do I correct it?

Check the fluid level as well. Mine was whining for a while and I found out the fluid level was low because of a leak in the PS pump. When I added more fluid, the whine went away.
My PS pump had the leak in it just before 20,000 miles. Just because it has low miles doesn't mean its unbreakable. I had 32's on mine.
