PS whine??

1782 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  platform389
I have had 2 excursions into some pretty gnarly mud this winter, and both times after about 30 minutes in the mud my steering starts whining. when you turn the wheel it kinda makes a sighing/whining sound that is hard to describe. Then it continues to do it for the rest of the day even after washing and then the next day its gone....very strange. what could cause this? Is it a sign of trouble to come? If so, how do I correct it?

PS pumps are a weak point with these trucks. I am on my third one.

Sounds like yours is beginning to fail. Keep watching and listening, while saving the money for another one.

I went with a Toyota remanufactured one in my last replacement. They are about $100 cheaper than new. Not too tough to change out. You will need to take the old one with you when picking up the reman to avoid a core charge.

Any dealer can get them. NAPA also has reman pumps as well.

well, thats what I was thinking too, but the truck only has about 20k miles on it!! Must be the 33s!!! Anyone got a price range on em'?
My first pump failed at 10K, under warranty.

New pump around $350+. Reman was $250+. Does not include labor if you have it done.
