OK I did a search but no luck.
I have a 96 Taco 4x4 w/manual Trany. I don't like where the cup holders are on the 96 and I have seen newer tacos where the cup holders are attached to the trim around the shifters.
My Quetion is can the newer (98-00) shifter console fit the 96-97 tacos? and if so does anyone know a good place to find them?

from the look of my friends 1997 it looks to have the same mounting locations on the boot suround but minus the cup holders. The worst you have to do is make some new tabs and bolt them down to fit the newer suround.

If you're going to get a new console get one from 01+, they're way nicer and have more storage space. It also sits up high enough to use as an arm rest while driving. ....Steve

I second SteveO's suggestion... There've been sufficient complaints about the '98 - '00 consoles that many owners swap 'up' to the '01+ models. If you're gonna have to adapt a newer console, go for the '01+...

I've heard of people swapping in 4Runner consoles, but I don't know how much modification / adaptation is required...

I test drove a 98 truck, 4x4 5speed that had the bench seat. It had a console around the shifter that had a cupholder that was on the passenger side. I would like to have one like that mated up to a 01-04 style center console. Then I'd have three cupholders. The only problem is that the shorter style console doesn't appear to be made to match up to the center console/armrest piece that came in the trucks with bucket seats.

My truck has the bucket seats and full console, I'd just like to upgrade to an 01-04 console and add the bench seat forward portion to get an extra cupholder. Anybody tried this?
