I used to have a radar dector, that didn't work very well at all. I didn't get any tickets but I try to be carefull. I could usually spot the radar my self long before the detector went off. But what I am wondering is do any of you guy's have a radar jammer? Do they really work? Are they worth having or just another waste of money?

I don't know if they exist, or if they do, if they even work. I have been on the right end of a radar gun, and no offense, but IMO, anything that defeats a radar gun, even if it DOES work, is still a waste of money. The reason is that there are other ways to skin a cat, like pacing you, timing you between two points, etc. Seriously, I loved to outwit motorists who were speeding (usually intentially), and who then got all p----ed off when I had them dead cold. You can do what you want, but in the end, I think most people will pay to play sooner or later.

A few years back my younger brother installed a Stealth or Phantom jammer...I dont exactly remember the brand...on his Chevy Beretta. He always claimed that it worked but we never really had any concrete proof that it was doing much.
One day I was riding as a passenger in his car with him, & we, along with a bunch of other cars, passed a state trooper sitting at a speed trap along the freeway. We had both a radar detector & the jammer on, and were problably speeding a little. The radar detector lit up & the cop immediately peeled out after the group of cars that had passed.
Once he got up behind us all, he got up behind each of the cars, one at a time & kept flipping the Radar gun on & off. Our Jammer was turned off by now so when the cop got up behind us he just flipped his radar & passed on.
The moral of the story is....our jammer seemed to jam the cops radar, but it also seemed like he was more interested in who had it & wanted to pull just them over. Definately mount it in a remote location in your grill & have a way to turn it off descreetly.

I was under the impression they were illegal in most, if not all states. I know that doesn't mean you can't get it, but just be careful and know your State laws.

I have heard they give off very strange reading on the gun, so the cops know you (or someone in a pack of cars) have one. I don't have any real world experience though, that is just something I read on the internet, so it has to be true. ;)

I am doing a little research on this so far I have found that a Laser jammer IS illegal in the following states Minnesota (Statutes 2002, 169.14), California (Sec. 1, Ch 493.28150) and Utah (C. 41-6-52.7, 1998). as far as radar jamers go I found this.
California
Radar Jammers are illegal in California. Radar Detectors are legal.

Commercial Use
The Department of Transportation bans the use of detectors in commercial trucks or vehicles weighing over 10,000 lbs.

Minnesota
Radar Jammers are illegal in Minnesota. Radar Detectors are not.

Military Restrictions
By Federal Law, Radar Detectors and Radar Jammers are illegal to use on any military base.

Nebraska
Radar Jammers are illegal in Nebraska. Radar Detectors are not.

Oklahoma
Radar Jammers are illegal in Oklahoma. Radar Detectors are not.

Virginia
Virginia State Law deems the use of Radar Detectors and Radar Jammers as illegal.

Washington DC
The laws of Washington DC make the use of of Radar Detectors and Radar Jammers illegal

In 1991, 34.7GHz frequency radar guns were introduced, which motivated radar detector companies to introduce Ka band. In 2002 Bee POP 3 was introduced at 33.8GHz. This is the super fast burst radar, which is 3x faster than standard radar. 35.5GHz Ka was also introduced in 2002 by Stalker. These two events caused radar detector companies to introduce “Superwide Ka” band detection. Today, a Radar Detector has to detect X, K, Ku, KA (4 frequencies) and laser. However, the radar jammer is still providing only X and K band support, which at most is 30% of the total radar used.

So basicly a radar jammer does you no good any more, and a laser jammer is Illegal in some states.

I think jammers are illegal anywhere in the country from the standpoint of current and long standing FCC rules. I'd have to check to be sure but I do believe that any kind of jamming is illegal. I know I got my ass busted for building and running a broad band jamming transmitter when I was a kid. To say that my father was not amused is an understatement. Leasons learned in that fashion tend to stick with you.

Yep here it is.

Operations
Blocking & Jamming

The operation of transmitters designed to jam or block wireless communications is a violation of the Communications Act of 1934, as amended ("Act"). See 47 U.S.C. Sections 301, 302a, 333. The Act prohibits any person from willfully or maliciously interfering with the radio communications of any station licensed or authorized under the Act or operated by the U.S. government. 47 U.S.C. Section 333. The manufacture, importation, sale or offer for sale, including advertising, of devices designed to block or jam wireless transmissions is prohibited. 47 U.S.C. Section 302a(b). Parties in violation of these provisions may be subject to the penalties set out in 47 U.S.C. Sections 501-510. Fines for a first offense can range as high as $11,000 for each violation or imprisonment for up to one year, and the device used may also be seized and forfeited to the U.S. government.

Let me see now, $11,000 adds up to a hell of a lot of speeding tickets.

Passport 8500 or Valentine 1

Buy yourself a GOOD radar detector like a Passport 8500 or Valentine 1. Those cheaper walmart brands are worthless. They go off constnatly at everything except what they are designed for. I have a Passport 8500 and its the chit around town and a decently busy interstate. No if your out in the country with little to no cars its not much good because the cops dont turn the radar on much therefore u wont pick it up till its to late.
Its saved my but many of times. Even if you arent speeding its nice to know they are "around".

from what i hear from my racing friends there are certain police radars apparently very few that constantly turn themselves on and off and as soon as a car drives by its BAM!! and from what they told me thats when the jammers fail, but all in all if a cop sees u speeding, hes going to get suspicious even if he cant clock you

In Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords there was an article on one of those a year or so ago. It worked according to them as they tested it on a track. It states in the MAGAZINE:
K-40 Electronics DefuserPLus
Using a LTI Marksman 20/20 Radar Gun
"The object was to nail them from 1000ft away......the first thress runs were from 55mph to 40mph....the first run we had slowed down to 29mph and were 108ft away from the gun. We could of slowed even more if we wanted to. in fact on the next pass we slowed down to 24mph and were just 66ft away from the gun by the time it was able to pick us up.......It worked every time after that when decelaerating from 75mph to 50mph...in every case we were able to slow down more than our pre determined speed......100 to 65...were able to haul it down to 46 the first time and 50 the second.....for the last test we tried again to pick up the car with the reciever covered to see if the results were true.....like clock work the gun picked up the car at 1,017ft at 68mph."

Also keep in mind they were in a Mustang which is able to slow alot faster than a Tacoma
