I started a little project to place a winch on a reciever hitch. I started with a couple pieces of stock.

and I ended up with this

I used 2inch OD square tubing .250 wall, the plate is dump truck frame that is 5/16s. The weight at this point is 79lbs. It sticks out about 8 inches, and there is .750 inch between the winch and the bumper.

LOL I need to cut out, drill and tap for the fairlead, which should help drop another pound. My target was under 85lbs and I think I made it. I plan to order synthetic line and a composite fairlead. I plan to use a Warn wiring harness so that when I get around to buying a Warn 8000s, it will be plug and play. :p

My dad gave me this old Belleview M6000 winch, Belleview was bought out by Warn and they renamed the winch a 5687. I have refurbished the winch, less the controls.

Will post up more pics once I get the harness, line and fairlead in.

should be a nice setup...

I used to run multi mount, now I have a ARB, but am going back to multimount.. Its more versatile for how I use my winch..

if you put
around the url the photo will show up, and then its easier to see what you are talking about...

Is the receiver you got store bought, like the Warn? Or is it home made? I have been looking for a front receiver that come out of the front tupperware in that location, but all I have seen look to come out from under the tupperware. If it is home made, do you have any pics of how you mounted it?

thanks

I couldn't find one that I liked, so I designed and fabricated the reciever and the winch plate.

I cut out the front skid plate bracket and welded brackets on each end of the frame that allows me to bolt and unbolt the reciever that sticks out through the bumper.

A reciever mounted winch is a mixed bag. It allows the placement of a winch when its needed, but the mount isn't as strong as a bumper that is tied into both sides of the frame. Weight is another consideration, I doubt without using exotic materials that getting the weight under about 70sh pounds or so would be feesible even with a 6K winch. It also sticks out there past the bumper, I think with a new Warn planetary gear winch, I could shave that down to about 7 inches, which wouldn't be too bad.

Look at the Reese front receiver, the one on my truck comes out just below the plastic, but I have a 3" body lift. Without the lift it would be right in the middle of the front bumper.
