I have never done this before but I need to replace my R and P. I drive a 2000 4x4 tacoma. If anyone have a write up with step by step that would be great. If not then any type of tips would be appriated.

air gun would also help or big ass cheat bar, one of the bolts is torqued down pretty good.

Ya...i dont have a torque wrench...is it really important that I torque the bolts down?
I read some where that you have to take the steering wheel off...Is this really nessary or was i reading it wrong.

it is very important to torque them down. it would be wise to invest or borrow one (make sure it can torque up to 250 ft lbs). You do not need to remove the wheel, you will need to make sure it doesnt turn because there is a spiral cable in the column that will break if the wheel spins.
