I'm looking at buying a new 2005 Toyota 4x4 Hilux Crew Cab truck in Central America (Nicaragua). I believe that these ROW trucks are not sold here in the USA..... unless the USA merely re-badges them and calls them something else.

My questions are:

1. Are these re-badged trucks? (Maybe really a Tacoma?)

2. If I wanted to upgrade the suspension, what model/year would I use when I shop for parts?

Basically I just don't know what trucks these are since the "Hilux" is not sold here in the states. (My main goal is to upgrade the suspension, maybe a 2-3" lift, and gain some suspension travel. I want to improve on the stock components.)

Any help?

You need to be sure that it can be registered in the US. Alot of vehicles, including some US made vehicles, aren't legal to sell in the US.

I would look for a Toyota forum in Australia, since they speak english and they sell the same model there. As far as the current suspension set-up used on the Hi-Lux, I'm not sure if it was changed to the current North American Tacoma or if it retains an older style.

And if you have any plans of bringing that thing here, then you will have to check with your state to see if it can be registered here.
