I don't know about the 2.7, but I have done a lot of testing on the new 4.0 V6.
On that engine there is absolutely no performance benitit from removing the carbon trap filter. I have dyno tested that and there is no difference on the dyno with it or without it. That carbon trap is not the most restrictive part of the intake on the 4.0. The most restrictive part is the airfilter box its self. We have fixed that with the new URD TCAI intake system.
