Does anyone know the size of the amsoil sdf-34 oilfilter, length wise? I beleave this is the over size filter that fits our 3.4's. Thanks.

Not necessarily, unless that area is sequential in some way (through a ten micron filter, then through a 5 micron filter*), you'll just end up with longer life, in all probability.

The oil is still going to flow through it's easiest route, it just has more potential for easiest routes when you've got more surface area, i.e. when one doesn't work anymore, it'll find another.
