So I just ordered a generic ricer style K&N FIPK from eBay

Be careful when you recharge the filter with oil. Use a very light amount. The mass air sensors are very sensitive. I paid over 200 for mine and honestly I think it works way better in a plastic bag in my garage. To me the deckplate mod worked just as good and the factory drop in filter protects way better. Just hold the K&N filter up to the light and look through it. Too much daylight for my liking. Especially for offroading. Not trying to dis K&N obviously they do something right they seem to be very popular. Just letting you know my experience. Oh also the heatshield moves with the engine. Eventually cracking my inner fender where its lower mount is.

The lower bolt and rubber bushing setup that mount to the fender at the bottom of the heat shield ripped through the fender. As your engine moves it flexes the intake tube putting stress on your heatshield. To fix the problem I relocated one of the heatshield mounts. Yes this was on a 98 3.4 Taco. I have seen different kits that had skinnier intake tubes that did not have such a tight fit in the heatshield. Must depend on the kit. And yes the actual FIPK K&N kit I had, had a mount that supported the center of the tube from the engine.

I ran the kit for years without any major problems. But soon came to the realization it was really any over kill that sucked mud and water (Main reason I removed it.) I am not trying to be rude so don't take offense. But isn't the main reason of this board to share info?? I was simply making you aware of what problems either myself or others ran into.
