I have the stock 2005 6 disc/non jbl and I want upgrade the door and rear speakers. The originals are 20 watts. I want a good speaker better than stock that will run of the head unit without getting an amp for them? Suggestions please.

Infinity makes a good speaker. I'm running the reference series, the Kapas are better....

Not sure about the power output from the stock h/u but would recommend upgrading the deck. Better speakers can only go so far as they wont have the power to drive them, and the input is coming from the same stock source. If the stock h/u is pushing 20 watts/channel, a lot of after market decks double that I believe. Just my 2/100 of a dollar.

MB quart components for the front, 3 ways for the rear. Most brands will suffice, just not crappy stuff. RF,Alpine, pioneer are good. I think the 05's are double din so a nice stereo mp3 with a pocket will be much better. That aside, I agree with MililaniTaco. If you just change the speakers it would still sound better.

You can also use Navone LOC (Line output convertors). They are some of the highest quality convertors you can get, and you can still keep your factory deck. There are plenty of forums where users who compete in SQ competitions use thier factory head units along with a Navone or Soundgate LOC.

Or if you were handy with electronics and a soldering iron, you could go to this link. That shows you how to make your own LOC.

Some amps also have speaker level inputs that would eliminate the need for a line converter. I think maybe Phoenix Gold or MTX. I have MBQuart speakers in my truck and they are awesome. You would have to get an amp to run them, need at least 60watts RMS to push them IMO.
