I just had Donahoe's, Deavers, and 5100's put on. I've noticed the back end squeaking when going over bumps or accelerating. It isn't a clunky squeak, but more of a rubber on metal squeak.

Today I had my wife jump on the tailgate while I was under the truck. It sounds like the squeaks are coming from the 5100's. The shocks are not silver, but yellow with a blue plastic cover on the top portion. The mounting bushings are all tight. Does the rubber bushings need to be lubed? I've never done that on any other vehicle.

i recently had the same issues and crawled underneath the truck to find the bolts on the deavers were finger loose... wrenched and torqued em and the squeeking went away completely...

I have the bil 5100's and every now and then I hear them squeaking. I get out my handy dandy can of WD-40 and go on a search for the noise. :welder:

Last time it was right at the shock bushings so I sprayed the shit out of them. Sure enough I got the little bugger and no more squeak. :xrocker:

The 5100 Series offers world famous Bilstein technology with applications for both stock height and lifted trucks, Jeeps and prerunners. Stock height shocks come in the traditional yellow finish with the light blue boot. Lifted height 5100 series shocks have a great new polished zinc finish with a black boot. You can tell which finish the shock has by the part number. If the last two digits are "H0" then it is the traditional yellow. If the last two digits in the part number are "H5" then it is the Zinc and black.

Does this mean I got screwed? I have 9 leaf Deaver's. Will I have less travel with these shocks. All of a sudden the squeak doesn't bother me too much!!

You may have a shock that is too short for your application, and it may be squeaking because it is stretched to the nuts, working the bushings more. I guess it's a possibility now that you throw the shock thing up like that. Check the measurement on the shocks...

It means you got screwed if you paid for some 5100's and didn't get them. I would take it back and let them know that these aren't the right shocks.

I believe it all boils down to the color. I would seriously doubt that a pair of 5100's mistakenly got painted the same color as the standard shocks. Not to mention that the boots are blue instead of black like the 5100's.

The 5100's are more expensive than the standard shocks. If you paid for them and you didn't get them, take it back.

My 5100's are zinc and black, AND my truck squeeks. I just said the hell with it!!

They are perhaps the same EXEPT the length. The 5100's are made for a lifted application (ie. they are longer to allow more droop). The standard shocks will max out if you try and flex the springs and will eventually fail.

5100s are yellow and zinc, that was my point. But A deaver pack will flex out the 8.5" travel 5100s without a wink. And I know people who have taken out the 8.5" shocks on a 7 leaf pack on their first outing. So the standards along with the popular zinc 8.5" travel will fail if you flex them.

I just called Bilstein, but they are closed today. I'll call tomorrow and post what they tell me. The part # on the shock is B46-2077 HO.

I purchased the entire suspension setup (Donahoe's, Deaver's, Bilstein's) from some one who gets great reviews on TTORA. I'm not posting names until I get more info. He did tell me that the 5100's were hard to find, but these were identical except for the color. I was going to go with the 5150's until he located these.

It is my belief that the yellow are stock height, and the silver are for lifted apps. They are not the same travel. Put the truck on stands and remove the shocks. They mostly will show you your problem. Oh and you definitely need to put some grease on the bushings of whatever shock you install. I would not use WD-40 or any chemical lube as they may dry out the rubber.

I contacted Bilstein today and gave them the part number of the shocks. They said they are for a Nissan. The valving etc is the same as the silver ones that fit a Toyota. I also contacted Camburg who said they use these on Toyota's at times, if the silver 5100's are not available. What is important is that they have 8" of travel when fully extended.

I disconnected the bottom bolt and they do indeed have 8" of travel, so I guess everything is OK in the long run.

The installer said he would swap them out if I wanted, but I don't think it is neccessary since it is a 4hr round trip.
