That mix is best for most stainless steels... NOT for regular mild steel...

Argon/Co2 or straight Argon is best for 99% of mild steel welding...

Out of curiosity, what does the oxygen do? Whats the physics or interaction?

Straight argon is HORRIBLE for mig welding, talk about porosity in your welds and welds w/o penetration, they look like ass. You want a 75argon 25co2 for gas metal arc welding (mig).

If you add a small percent of oxygen it will help w/ spray transfer, if you are doing spray arc or pulse mig welding.

The whole purpose of shielding gas is to keep oxygen away from the weld. This gas doesn't make sense for MIG welding.:2cents:
