I'm sure mine's not the only Tacoma to do this. On starting, I get a burbling noise for a second, but only if someone is sitting in the passenger seat.

To me it sounds like some kind of exhaust noise. My non-Tacoma buddy thinks it is failing engine mounts (though that was before I figured out it needs a passenger to make the noise).

Anyone know what this is?

I suppose... try this. One swift slap upside the passengers head, just before starting the truck. The noise will go from a burbling to a squeal!! Seriously?? Check the heat shield under the cab. It may be loose, or have a cracked weld. Same goes for the exhaust right there...the cat. converters, any brackets. Then, re-try the slap.
