Has anyone had problems with their steering rack? I recently lifted my '99 with a 3" Revtek & 33" tires. The truck has 93k and has not seen a lot of off-roading. After doing some minor 4x 'ing a couple of weekends ago, the truck started drfiting to both sides at hwy. speeds. I assumed it was alignment related and had a shop look at it. The mount points (3) have stock rubber bushings/washers where engine oil has deteroirated them. When turning the steering wheel back and forth, the steering rack moves a good 2" either way. From just looking at the mount points, it looks like the rubber washers/bushings just need to be replaced. However, I'm being told that the whole rack needs to be replaced at $900 for the part alone !!!!

Can just the bushings be replaced with, say, polyurethane ones ??

HELP !! :(

Go buy polly bushings...............the mech's you talked to are trying to put it to you. You can change out the bushings in about an hour; if your steering rack is not leaking and you can see the movement in the bushings your rack is good, just change the bushings.
