I know sway bars are self defeating in regards to SAS'ing and articulation. But I also know some have added them to their conversions for street manors using quick disconnects for trail use.

One of my :welder: friends that is helping with my conversion really thinks a sway bar is needed and is willing to fabricate it for me just to keep me safe. (what a great friend huh?) He has mentioned it so much that now my wife is practically demanding me to install one (okay, so he is not that great of a friend as to turn my own wife against me)

So what have others done for sway bars? My first thought was to keep the stock sway bar, fabricate longer end links and install to new tabs on the axle. My concern with that idea is the short side/drivers side of the D44. There is not that much room for much especially with the shock tabs already needing to go there and the spring perch that will probably be in the way as well.

My friend's idea is to fab up new mounting points on the front spring hanger and invert the sway bar from the front.

Any better ideas out there? I would like to resolve this issue soon so I can quit having to listen to my wife ab out how the truck is not going to be safe.

Look at Dick Foster's setup, he's got a very nice swaybar solution.

Thanks Mike by now you would think I would have one folder full of images of his truck alone, but I don't. Can I find images on the Socal site?

Currie will sell you a custom length sway bar, custom length end links, and mounting requirements to run it. I'm sure you have heard of the antirock sway bars, but incase you haven't: they are adjustable (via different holes in the leverage arm) to allow flex, or not. My buddy has one on his TJ, and it will allow him to flex out the front no problem. Hes only getting something like 14" of flex though. Just another option to look into.

I wouldn't worry about a sway bar. You should implement a panhard though... it will make a SAS tacoma more responsive as far as steering and handling goes. I would use a soild round bar of 1 1/2" 4130, and tig weld 4130 tube on each end, then use bushings at each end. Fab some brackets at the frame and axle. When you do that, make sure that the panhard is as parallel as possible to the drag link, other wise your bump steer will be horrendous... I'm known to be a caster and bump steer nazi.

i have a super burly 1.5" racing sway bar sitting in the shop if your interested. it is insanely heavy duty.

At this point, I am definitely interested, here is my email address if you would like to discuss this off the board. [email protected].

you wouldn't have any images would you? (I was wanting something from Bent up on my truck. but ended up building my own brackets. maybe this will work to satisfy that desire. :lmao: )

But if you cold get me further information on what you have, I am definitely interested

wtf??? you don't need any swaybars!!! you are not doing coils, sissy!!!
just kidding dude!!!
but you don't need em!

Oz.

Let's see how big of a sissy you turn into after Sept 4! :lmao: First piece of marital advice…keep the Mrs. happy or you will never be happy again.

I wish I was doing coils, but I am too dumb for all that. But I do figure until I completely figure out what I am going to do with my CG a sway bar is not a bad thing.

I worked up a game plan for the swap, if you care to see what I would like you to help with? Of coarse as always, it is subject to change with the breeze but at least I look organized! :D

Momma Bear is getting tired of hearing about all this! good thing we are almost ready huh?

On a different note, I am going to check with someone I know about rotating the knuckles. If he can't do it, I am going to bring the axle to you so you can help me with the rotation.

With you being such the "camber nazi" as you put it, you have scared me away from doing it myself!
:lmao: We should have time…scheduling the SAS in May so it won't be anytime soon…I know you have things going on right now anyway.

****Off topic completely! I met Michael (4Runner w/snorkel) last week in a parking lot, seems like a real nice guy!****

And what is with the "bear attack" thing? Honestly, do you really think that looks good on your tail gate?!?!?!?!? and calling your wife mamma bear? AH< YOU"RE A HUMAN!

**notice: the post above was posted by supahonkey hiding behind a screen name, apparently for the sole purpose of flaming. What is this supposed to accomplish? **

And what have you done lately Noob? You sure do have strong opinions for a poser with two post. Have you been slithering around my garage every night for the last few months? Did you take notes when I built and welded all my SaS brackets 5 days after neck surgery last month? Were you not impressed with my lessons to my son on leaf springs last night while we tore apart and cleaned the chevy springs we are modifying for the rear?

What difference does it make to you how the fuck long it has taken me to do a particular project? I wasn't aware we had SAS Nazi's that policed the time frame work is done to an individuals truck. and for the record, dip shit I haven't been flapping about it for months, I have been discussing, researching and planning it for 4 years! Have you ever heard of a thing called research, or even R&D? I am sure the only thing in regards to developement you know about is taking your truck in for an oil change and then thinking you have accomplished a major mod (modifaction for you poser wannabe types).

The main reason it has taken me so long to SAS my rig is because I am taking my time and doing it right. As in "done right the first time, done once". I could have done it like some, decide it looked cool, done zero research and gone off half cocked (like your web typing fingers have done you internet tuff guy) and spent way too much on parts. I just like doing things correctly and not over pay. If you are the type that likes to pay more than you have to for things, then that is the only thing that makes you a better man than I. I consider that thinking stupid!

I have probably done more to my truck in the five years I have been with TTORA than you have the guts to even think about doing. Not to mention probably twice as much wheel'n. (That is wheel'n most if not all the harder areas Texas has to offer) What have you wheeled? some "hillybilly backwoods dirt road"? You might consider who you call out to flame before your big shot, web lurking–over inflated ego tells you to. I have contributed more to the Texas chapter and National board than your diaper wearing butt could ever hope to. Typically I will go out of my way, do whatever I can to help any fellow wheeler, not to mention giving the shirt off my back to my fellow TTORA brethrain (so I can't spell…sue me!) which is the basis for this club. I consider myself a model member, not to mention one of the nicest people you will ever meet and a noob like you decides to try and attack me? who the hell do you think you are. You bit off way more than you can chew

And don't even start in on Mo mma Bear. It is no ones fault but yours and your mammie that you have no creativity!

Oh and BTW! Bear Attack is not on my tail gate! IT'S ON MY WINDSHIELD GET YOUR DAMN FACTS STRAIGHT!

Oh and I also got a message from Momma Bear for you (thought it was only fair to her to let her know you disliked her TTORA handle…yes she is a member of the club as well) and one of, if not the classiest ladies associated with our club–ask anyone that went to national Take Over in Texas two years ago, where she was at serving up dinners for everyone!

"if he has a problem with the graphics that your wife designed have him talk to me or shove it up his A**!"–Momma Bear

I have wasted way too much time on a wannabe like yourself already. so all I can say now is, just go crawl back under your key board, tuff guy and :stfu:

Get your facts straight before your internet typing fingers takes you to a place you don't want to go to! Flamers ( and I mean this type :xrainbow: ) just need to go grab your jar of lube and choke on your :xrainbow: partners tool. I am sure you have no knowledge of how to handle a real mechanical one!

To everyone else on the board

I apologize for my outburst on this thread, but lately we have been getting far too many egotistical idiots :newbie: 's that like to spout off against the old timers of the club, and I let my frustration take over on this one.

as most know, I am typically not so boisterous (sp? yes Dick we need our spell checker back)

I know we can not police such idiots as this guy and should just ignore these types, but when he says something about my wife, I am going to strike back! Other than that comment from him, I thought the rest of his post was funny, if not pathetic.

again I apologize to all of our regular members that come here for the common interest of gaining knowlegde about our vehicles of choice and fellowship in off roading.

Bear
