I have been lurking on this site for a little while now, and I must say, there is some great info here. I bought an 03 Tacoma TRD about 2 months ago, and am looking at all the things I can to to make it better. One trip off road convinced me that it needs help. First things planned are Grey wire mod, and deck plate mod. Then a 2 inch body lift and a 3 inch Cornbread lift. I am thinking about shackle lift for the rear, something like the revolver set? Pro's and cons? I do want to run 33x12.5's, or the metric equivilant on the 16 inch rims. I dont know much about this truck, but it is a V6, 5 speed, and seems to have low gears in it, something like 4.56. Knowing the way I work, I can guess that within a year it will have Dana 60's front and rear, and be beat all to hell, and not legal for road use. Thats what happened to the 02 Wrangler I had. But, I dont think this thing will leave me stuck on the side of the road with only 70 miles on the odometer like the Jeep did. I am interested in an Straight axle conversion kits, if any are avalible. I didnt know about using an old Toy axle because of problems with the birfield joints with a locker and big tires. Plus, I am looking at using a jeep style (4 link) set up instead of leaf springs. Maybe in the rear too. As I am sure you can guess, I have been wheeling more than a few times, and can handle a welder fairly well. My current problem is that I now live in an appartment, so I doubt that I will be able to do this in the parking lot. LOL. I do want to know if there is anyone around the DFW Texas area that wants to get together and wheel. I havent been doing the off road thing in a few years, so I am out of the loop. I would appreciate any tips, suggestions or wheeling buddies, so hit me up.
Thanks,
Adam.
