Is there any other tool besides the Blue Point / Snap on Tensioner Tool that I can buy localy that works the same? I need it by this weekend and Snap On said it'd be a few weeks.

I will be making a pulley holding tool so that is covered, and also have a torque wrench that goes up to 250 ft lbs.......

I thought my Dad had everything (Diesel Mech), but he doesn't.......
Do I also need a pulley tool??

I am giong off of the write up on toy4x4.net

Thanks, Trevor

Not sure about time frame but-
You could probably get it from toyota
http://toyota.spx.com/

Not sure if you can get it from the local Snap-on trucks

The Chain pipe wrenches are pretty cheap- the one I linked was on sale for $10 bucks -

I called Toyota SST, they don't make one.......
I called Snap-On - OnLine store and they got me one. I will have it this FRI. (next day air) which is perfect....ended up costing $65.00 dam dollars but oh well.........
I might swing by the local HF on the way home and p/u one of those chain wrenches if they are only $10.00...Thanks!!!!

PM me if you want to work something out so you don't have to pay Snap-on overnight the tools-
I've loaned out the tool before - usually just local members though-

My guess is that you're OK with it- $60 bucks is better than paying someone else $300 bucks plus you get to keep the tool :)
THe other suggestion would be to rally up a couple of locals to split the cost- since its a valuable but infrequently used item.

Yea, I'm saving like $500.00 If I do the Labor myself, so $60.00 is def. okay w/ me.
I really appreciate the offer though....thats awesome.....
I'm gonna attempt this on Sat at my Dad's garage....I might end up on here w/ some questions.......(hopefully not).....Thanks!!

Not sure if you have a FSM- if not- print out the relevant pages first- from http://fsm.afraid.org/
You'll want the timing belt pdf's obviously, also the water pump , PS & alternator won't hurt-
Get all your torque spec highlighted
but the toy4x4.net site should walk you through things

If you have difficulty with the crank pulley bolt- just attach a breaker bar to the bolt- allow the bar to rest against the frame & turn the key

Two questions:

1) $500? $300? Are we talking about replacing the timing belt??? If so, SLC
dealers charge $200.

2) The FSM link is awesome but it's for 2003's. Is there a link for 96's?

Find the right size tubing, chop up some bolts, and you got a bunch of cheap tensioner tools to send to people.

I have the blue point tool also, although it spends more time getting passed around than it does in my tool box. :D

TOV does suck! Every few months they have a flyer that ALWAYS has a special running for 199 they will replace the timing belt.

I am going to do mine my self because I wasn to replace the belts and water pump also. I am going to do mine once I sell my boat and have room in my garage. I am over by costco. Let me know how yours goes. I might want to borrow your tool if your up to it.

Yea. I am just down the road toward HWY 99. I never get to any of the local boards. I just check this one.
