Gotta get some new sockets so which is better, 6pt or 12pt. My brother said that the 12pt is better. If so why? I have always had craftsman 6 pt and have had no problem with them. If they make both there must be a difference. Thanks

just like everything, adv and disadv to ea.

6pt, more contact area-less likely to round

12pt, better in tight places. ever been in situation where you couldn't throw the rachet far enough to catch (rachet)

most times it won't matter. both will work fine. stay w/ 6pt and just get the occassional socket if in spot where 12pt better choice

Get 6-point sockets and a good wrench to make up for the difference in turning distance for ratcheting.

You'd be surprised how much difference a nice tight Matco or Snap-On ratchet makes compared to those alligator-teeth Craftsman and generic ratchets.

For Sockets I'd always get 6pt. As long as you don't get some Super cheap ratchet, with huge indexes it will always have better contact area, and you will have less likelyhood of rounding off your nut or bolt. Unless that is you run into 12 point fasteners.
