Towing with Toytota Tacoma

I searched the archives and read some of the old posts, but I want to make sure about a few things.

I have a 95 toyota xtracab 4x4 V6 5spd all stock w/ 120k. I'm looking at buying a flats boat and will tow the boat in my local area. However, I will also make frequent trips to a place about 220 miles one way. The boat is small 16ft and light around 1,500 lbs (boat, motor, trailer). The trailer does not have brakes.

Does anyone have any experience doing this? Should I get another vehicle or will mine be fine? On automatic trannys, they often have a transmission cooler and is this something that I need to have on a manual tranny (pardon my ignorance)?

My local trips will be about 30 miles each way, and I intend to use this boat several times a week, and make the long tow 440 miles round trip almost every weekend during the spring and summer. So, let me know what you guys think. I understand that there will be wear and tear, but I don't want to destroy my tranny or engine.

Also, I would really like to hear any first hand experiences with this.

By the way, I'm glad the forums moved from delphi. For some reason, I had continuing problems with logging in, and I just gave up on it.

If anyone needs a 87 4runner in Alabama for parts, let me know... [email protected]

Thanks in advance!

V6? No problem. I tow this kind of weight regularly and have no problems. I have a 4 banger. It is mountainous here, and you have to shift, but it just goes. My brakes do seem a little lacking, though. Start braking early.
