Not my truck, but a good freind. 130K on a 2000 4x4 auto. Has had the SC since 40K miles with fuel mods. The truck has been making a ratteling sound for the last 15K miles. You can hear it most notably at idle. If you crawl under the truck and listen it sounds like the ratteling is coming from inside the bellhousing. (just an FYI - this sounds is different from the ping created by the SC)

He thought it was the exaust but a new system didn't do anything to fix the problem. Has been steadly getting worse over the last 8 months or so. My buddy took it in today to the local "Auto Shop" and they told him it was either the flex plate in the tranny or the tq converter "had several lose bolts". The tranny doesn't slip and shifts normally.

So my Tacoma was a Manual and I have never played with the Toyota Auto. I could pull the manual and replace with a new clutch in about 4hrs. How hard is it to get the auto out? What is a rebuild going to cost? Common problem?

Later,

Chris
