I'm in search for a 2002 tacoma,V6,4x4, XtraCab,SR5 transmission but wondering if the 4Runner's trans. is swapable with the tacoma's with the same year and same features. Are they the same ? if yes, what are the year range of the 4runner transmission that I can use in tacoma ? Thanks for the input everyone. PD

The 4runner transmission will NOT work froma 2001-2002. On the driver's side of the transmission about half way there is a flat black plug held in by a 10mm bolt. Also to the rear of the transmission there is a connector that is grey in color, it would be 5 wires. On your truck you have a cable coming out where the black plug would be, the cable looks like the throttle cable. The cable extends over the intake manifold. Also the plug is 3-wire and not 5. I'm sure all the other plugs will plug in you might have to swap out the neutral safety switch (not hard to do). I have a 2001 Tacoma and bought a 2001 4runner transmission, it didn't work. I should have taken pictures of both to show the differences.. but I did take pics of the prerunner transmission and the 4x4 to compare.
